25 years of Shopmobility and your Autumn update…

Bury Shopmobility - 1993

Twenty-five years ago, in December 1993, Shopmobility opened its doors for the first time!

Along with some of the items in this newsletter, we are continuing to celebrate our 25th anniversary and our celebrations will culminate in a bonus Hamper extravaganza! More details will be released throughout October and November. Be sure to buy your tickets! We are now collecting items for our Christmas Hampers!

To commemorate our 25th anniversary and continued success of providing our services to the people of Bury and beyond, we are continuing to invest in our fleet and information services. September has seen the launch of our new website which is easier to use and provides information on our services in a clearer format – be sure to check it out! 2018 has also seen more investment into our fleet with new scooters and wheelchairs being procured to replace our older equipment, we will continue to do so in 2019 to provide the best that our members duly deserve.

AGM Update

Our Annual General Meeting, held at our offices on 7th August, was well attended and all in attendance heard how Bury Shopmobility is continuing to improve year on year and be a charity that is built for the long term. The usual formalities were carried out with the re-election of our board members with a new board member being appointed. Anthony, has been with us since 2009, and he will bring an air of youthfulness to our board and we wish him well in his new role.

The success that we have experienced over the last 12 months cannot happen without the generous support of our dedicated and supportive members, the unwavering work of our volunteers, and the support of our corporate partners. Our appreciation can never be understated and we hope we can continue to provide the service that is expected of us.

Special thanks to Millercare for their fleet support, John for keeping our fleet in excellent condition and to all our volunteers who dedicate their time and efforts to assisting Bury Shopmobility in its mission.

Want to support us but don’t know how?

The great work that Shopmobility only happens with the kind support of all those who donate through their membership, sponsored events, the tombola stall and through our Friends of Shopmobility scheme.

Any operating surpluses are spent investing in the future with a constantly refreshed fleet and looking at ways to improve for the benefit of our customers.

For those who are not aware, we have a monthly donation scheme where, via Standing Order (so you always control it), you can support Bury Shopmobility on an ongoing basis. You can donate at any level you wish.

These donations and any donations can further be supported by signing a Gift Aid declaration so that we can reclaim the tax on your donation. This means we can increase your donation by 25% – £10 turns into £12.50 just like that!

Imagine if everyone who pays Income Tax allowed us to claim the Gift Aid on their donations – the benefits are unfathomable! Drop in and ask for a declaration form if you would like us to claim Gift Aid on your donations and it does not cost you a penny.

There are other ways to support our work. One way would be to consider the possibility of donating to Bury Shopmobility by leaving us a legacy in your will. Please contact your solicitor or financial adviser for more information on leaving gifts in your will.

As a final note, your support is truly appreciated by all those who come to us whether for a short or long-term mobility need and your donations are entirely spent on ensuring this vital service continues for the next 25 years and beyond.

Supported by: Millercare, who provide a 10% discount to all Shopmobility customers and they are our recommended provider for all your mobility needs!
